I decided to make a delicious chili beans with ground beef today so I thought to myself why I don’t cook the pinto beans here at home instead of using can??? it was a good idea because I could use my favorite spices in my cooked beans. I get started and the result was perfect so lets use homemade cooked pinto beans with your chosen spices sometimes and enjoy the taste. ingredients for cooked pinto beans
- 1 cup dried pinto beans
- 1/2 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 chopped onion
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin
- 1 chopped tomato
- 1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper
- salt to taste
first put the beans in a bowl, cover with cold water and let soak overnight. then drain and rinse the beans, put them in a pot over high heat and pour in enough water that cover 2 inches above the beans. bring it to a boil then reduce the heat to low and cook the beans for almost 2 hours until they are tender.
meanwhile add the olive oil and chopped onions in a skillet over medium heat and saute for 5 minutes until the onions are tender.
now add minced garlic, red pepper, chili powder and saute for about 2 minutes.
then add chopped tomatoes, cumin, salt and saute again for 2 to 3 minutes.
pour in 1/2 cup water and bring the mixture to a boil.
pour the mixture into a blender and puree it.
this spicy puree is going to be a tasty sauce for your pinto beans.
pour the puree into the cooked beans.
stir and simmer for 30 minutes until thickened.
now your delicious spicy cooked beans are ready to enjoy …
