Swedish Meatballs Recipe

Swedish meatballs are absolutely delicious, the combination of tender and flavorful meatballs with a creamy and smooth white sauce is perfect and this homemade version is a simple way to make both the meatballs and the sauce.

Ingredients for Swedish meatballs

  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 3 tablespoons Panko bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 onion
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • salt and pepper to taste

Direction

Grate the onion In a large bowl.

Add the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, chopped parsley, nutmeg and enough salt and pepper into the bowl.

Mix all ingredients until combine.

Roll the mixture into 14 large meatballs. In a skillet over medium low heat add 1 tablespoon of the butter and olive oil then add the meatballs too.

Cook the meatballs turning continuously until brown on each side and cooked throughout.

Remove the cooked meatballs, then add the remaining butter, minced garlic and the flour.

Whisk them for about 2 to 3 minutes.

Slowly pure in the beef broth and stir continuously until the mixture is smooth, then add the Worcestershire sauce and stir to combine. Simmer the sauce until thickened.

At the end add the heavy cream and stir to combine.

Add the meatballs back to the skillet and simmer for 5 minutes.

Now serve your delicious Swedish meat balls over rice or egg noodles.
