Let me tell you something, making a perfect pie crust in home is not hard at all. Follow the steps that I tell you in this recipe and you will never go back to buy a pie crust from stores again once you learn how to make this easy and quick pie crust by your self.
Ingredients for homemade pie crust
- 2, 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 cup ice water
First put the flour, salt and sugar into the bowl of the food processor and pulse to mix.
Make sure to use a cold butter to have a flaky pie crust at the end, and cut the cold butter into 1/2 inch cubes.
Add about half of the cubed butter to the food processor and pulse several times.
Then add the remaining butter and pulse about 6 to 8 times again to have a pea-sized pieces of butter in the mixture.
Sprinkle the mixture with about 4 tablespoons of ice water and pulse the food processor again.
Add the remaining water spoon by spoon and pulse once or twice after each addition.
Continue adding the ice water until the dough holds together when you squeeze some of it in your hand. Be careful about the amount of water you add because you’re going to have a tough dough by adding too much water.
Now empty the crumbly mixture from the bowl and gather the mixture to a mound. This mixture will yield enough dough for one 10-inch pie with a crust for the topping, or 2 10-inch topless pies…
Make 2 dough disks from the mound. Don’t use your hands too much when you are making the dough because your warm hand can easily melt the butter in the dough. Wrap each disk by plastic and refrigerate them for at least 1 hour.
Remove one of the disk from refrigerator and let it sit for about 5 minutes in order to get soft enough to roll easy. Lightly flour the surface to keep the dough from sticking, place the disk on floured surface and roll it gently with your rolling pin to a 13-inch circle, about 1/8 inch thick.
Place the dough onto a 10-inch pie plate.
Gently press the dough down until it lines the bottom and sides of the pie plate.
Finally use a scissors to trim the edge of the pie dish.
Now your pie crust is ready to add the fillings….
