Ingredients for french onion soup
- 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 onions
- 6 cups beef broth
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 8 slices french bread
- 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
- salt and pepper to taste
Melt the butter with the olive oil in a pot over medium heat.
Add the sliced onions and saute until cooked and tender for about 15 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and saute for more 5 minutes.
Sprinkle with the flour and add the dried thyme, stir to combine and saute for 5 minutes.
Pour in beef broth and season with salt and pepper.
Simmer the soup for about 30 minutes.
Heat the oven broiler. Pour the soup in 4 serving bowls.
Place 2 slices of french bread on top of each one.
Sprinkle each bowls with grated Gruyere cheese and Parmesan cheese.
