Ingredients for basic sugar cookies
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1, 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter
In a large bowl beat the room temperature butter and sugar with an electric beater for 2 to 3 minutes until smooth and creamy.
Add the egg and beat 2 to 3 minutes more until well incorporated.
In another bowl sift the flour, baking powder and salt.
Gradually add flour mixture and beat.
Continue beating until the mixture texture is like bread crumbs.
Make the mixture together by the Pressure of your hands. Now your dough is ready. Divide the dough in half, it makes rolling your dough much more easier. Refrigerate them for about 2 hours.
Now preheat the oven to 375 degree F. Sprinkle the surface and your rolling pin with flour.
Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thick.
Cut into your desired shape.
place the shaped dough at least 1/2 inch apart on parchment paper. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the cookies are beginning to turn brown on the edges. Let the cookies sit on the parchment paper for 2 minutes until removal from the oven and then transfer them to wire rack to cool.
