Ingredients for macaroni and cheese
- 1 (8 ounce) pack elbow macaroni
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2, 1/2 cups cheddar cheese
- 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
- 1, 1/2 cups homemade pasta sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
Bring a large pot of water to boil then add salt and the macaronis. Cook the macaronis for 8 to 10 minutes until cook through but still firm, then drain.
Meanwhile Place the butter in a pan over medium heat. When the butter melt add the flour.
Saute the flour about 3 minutes until smooth.
Pour the milk into the mixture slowly and stir continuously for about 5 minutes until it is smooth and thickened.
Now add 2 cups of cheddar cheese.
Stir the mixture continuously until the cheese is melted. Then add the salt and pepper and stir to combine.
Add the macaronis into the cheese mixture and stir until well combined.
Spread half of the macaroni mixture in a lightly oiled baking dish.
Then spread half of the homemade tomato sauce over the macaroni mixture.
Repeat one more time and add remaining macaroni mixture and pasta sauce.
Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese and the Parmesan cheese on top. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven to 350 F for 40 to 50 minutes until the cheese begins to brown and the tomato pasta bubbling at the edges.
